The sporting public will learn with pleasure that the committee of the El'th.am Racing Club have made arrangements for the holding of the club's first meeting. The gathering, which will, of course, take place without a totalisator, will be held on the Hawera racecourse on 14th May. The Hawera Jockey Club's winter meeting take? place on Wednesday and Thursday. 12th and 13th, and the Eltham Club's meeting on the next day, Friday. 1-itb. The Hawera Club has very generously placed its course and appointments at the dteposal of the local club free of all charge, a kindness which will be heartily appreciated. The programme for the meeting has already been draws up. and submitted to the Taranaki Metropolitan District for approval. It has been suggested that Eltham business people should observe a close holiday on the day of the meeting, and do all in their power to enable the club to justify its demand for a •totalisator permit. The value of the meeting to the business people of the town will greatly outweigh any sacrifice that may be made to enable the club to obtain the required permit.
