DEER-STALKING
OPENING OP THE SEASON. A false impression appears to have gained ground that red deer stalking is to be open in the Horowhenua district this season. We have been askod to state that this is not so, and the Acclimatisation Society is taking special precautions to have the district thoroughly ranged. Recently a party, under Mr Bould, of Levin, made a visit to Paraparaumu, this being the annual visit for the purpose of mustering and drafting the season’s calves for distribution in different parts of the Wellington Society’s district. This year these have been distributed at I’almcrstpa North, Levin, Paraparaumu, and the Wairarapa.
; The Society introduced a new strain ' of blood into the herd lust, year in a ! slug from Otago, which should be an j improvement, us the Otago red doer j have a longer horn than our Wairarapa 1 court-bred herd. i
; The- prospects of the stalking this yea , :u. Paraparaumu are good. Mr Bould j informs us lie saw two really good heads last week-end, and there are j plenty of hinds about this year.
