“THE MARRIAGE RING.” OTAKI—SATURDAY. Tho languorous atmosphere ot the tropics, with Hawaii as its locale, the tinkle of the ukeifle and the sound of the" rolling surf on the white sands, these are the accompaniments of ‘‘The Marriage Ring.” the newest Paramount picture starring dainty Enid Bennett, which was produced by Thos. j H. Ince. The story was written by | John Lvnch. Ered Nitdo. ex-Broadway star of’the legitimate :nid husband of Miss Bennett, directed. Jack Holt is leading man, and the story is said to be one of emotional strength and beautiful investiture. These, according to the producers, are the reasons why “ The Marriage Ring” will reap a harvest for exhibitors. Alany of the admirers of the pretty Australian star, now more numerous than ever, realise the true ability of the little actress, but even they, it is asserted, will be astonished at the splendid inteipre.nnon she gives in this picture ot an tinfortunte girl wedded to a brute, who later betray? himself a traitor to America as well. Jack Holt as a wealthy sugar planter gives another of those remarkable interpretations on account of which it has been stated that versatility in his middle name. Holt has punched cattle, driven do" teams in Alaska, roughed it in the wilds, yet he can assume in evening clothes the manner? of a multi-mil-lionaire. or he can put on cheap attire and make one despise the very ground he walks on. As Rodney Hc-athe. however. he has an essentially sympathetic role. Robert McKim is the bad man so thoroughly bad that it is predicted that liis bad end will be entirely pleasing.
“The Exploits of a German Submarine.” a special feature, and “Alissing ”an extra special, will be shown on Tuesday. They are two big stars, and worthy of strong support. A few Prccs opinions re the former are as follow:
“It is safe to say that of all films dealing with the war there has been nothing more thrilling. Germany is condemned by her own cinematograph records.”- —“Daily Express.”^ the whole gospel of the submarine campaign. ’ ’ —‘’ Daily Mail. *’ ••One ox the- most instructive aims—we saw the torpedo discharged, wc :-w t-ie doomed -.n,. q—si. . a.*..- was struck we saw -- - ink into tne sea. but we .-aw tittle or nothing of her “Morning Foot-’'
