MANAKAU.
PEACE MEMORIAL. A meeting of the executive of the Manakau Peace Memorial Committee was held on Wednesday night last. Prcsont: Messrs L. Atkins (chairman), Nees, W. Bevan, T. Clifford, and H. Andrew.
The secretary reported that he had visited Palmerston North, and interviewed Mr Fisher xo the design of the proposed memorial cenotaph, etc. His action was approved by the committee. A plan of the memorial was submitted to the meeting and discussed, and it was agreed to invite Mr Fisher to visit Atanakau and confer with the committee with respect to proposed amendment in the plan.
A letter was read from Mr T. Bevan, who enclosed a donation of £2 2s towards the fund, expressing a hope that the site proposed for the memorial be altered, as he considered it unsuitable.
The local branch of the Farmers’ Union also expressed a wish that the proposed site bo altered. After discussion it was resolved to hold another public meeting, and invite public expression of opinion with respect to altering the site of tho memorial, this being considered a most important matter. SWIMMING SPORTS. A number of Slanakau children par- | tieipated in the swimming sports held at the Levin swimming baths on Wednesday last. E. Evans distinguished himself by winning tho Wirokino championship, 50yds, in good style, thus securing Dr. Bryson’s gold medal. Hector Scholes came second, winning a silver medal, and Gray third. Gray also came second in the plate diving competition, and Evans and Gray tied for third placo in the long dive. A Manakau team (Evans, Gray, Scholes and Duneum) competed in the relay race, but came third, this even being won by Levin schoolboys. MANAKAU SPORTS. ,
Wednesday was a busy day for Atanakau sports, who had a “day out.” Some twenty tennis players visited Otaki, where tho club played a match with Otaki, the Manakau school-
boys wore well represented at the Levin swimming sports, while a cricket match was played on the local ground, in which a largo number participated, the match exciting keen interest, though the game was hurriedly arrauged.
