FRESH MILK.
INCREASED PRICES TO BE PAH>. A new agreement has been arrive* at between the City Council's: Milk Department and representatives of the Wellington Dairy Fanners' Co-opera-tive Association, Ltd., in regard to tcprice to be paid to the farmer- for the milk they supply. The chairman of the Milk Committee (Cr. W. H. Beaaett) stated at the last meeting of the Council that the agreement, arrived at with the aid of the Board of Trade, provided for the same price to be paid for the month jest closed as for February, IM9, with an advance of one penny per gallon for March and April. This meant that the committee would pay Is per gallon for February's supply, and Is Id for that of March and April. This would not. of course, help the
Milk Department's finance:-, and it might be neoessary to raise the price to the consumer in the winter. Cr. Bennett mentioned, as an indication of the interest being taken in the Council 's scheme, that inqnirie? for detail? had been received from Australia and America. In answer to Cr. C. H- Chapman, the chairman of the committer ■aid there would be no need to increase the price to the consumer until the winter, but it would not be pcaiWe, be feared, to carry out the Council's intention of charging a onifom rate thrcrughotit the year.— ffi Post."
