BADAK TIN SHARES.

Fluctuations in the priee of the scrip of the Badak Tin Mining Syndicate, operating in the Malay Peninsula, appear to be affording the Melbourne and Sydney Stock Exchanges frequent sensations. The cables the other day quoted transactions in the shares in Melbourne at £2OOO. Two ■ months ago they stood at £IOO, but a mouth later they rose to £4OO, and thence by jumps of about £2OO, until last week they touched £l5O0 —a fairly high price for £lO fully-paid shares. The syndicate enjoys prospecting rights until July of this year over a very large area, of which the amount that may be taken up is unlimited, and the rise in the shares was due to the receipt of a report from the boring expert on the property which was of a very gratifying nature. Considering that tin has risen since the outbreak of the war from £132 to practically £390 per ton, the syndicate appears to have got hold of an extremely "good thing." Within a day or two, however, after touching £I4OO, the shares suddenly crashed io £SOO, owing to rumours that the syndicate lease was i not legally secure, and that the average value of the country was much below that indicated by the borings. A reassuring report on these points sent, up shares again to £750, at which price they stood when the mail left Melbourne last .week. Tlfc rise to £2OOO is proof of the encouraging char- . acter of the expert's latest report.
