MANAKAU.
Although the site committee, set up to choose a suitable place for the peace memorial for Manakau, arranged to have a place on the main road near the railway station, it. has been pointed out that the space, if cannon are to be also placed there, will be insufficient, and it is now considered advisable to change tho locality to the post office site. It is possible that a further meeting will bo called to discuss the matter.
Tho Manakau State school picnic, held at Paekakariki on Friday last iu ideal weather, proved a great success. A large number of children and ptirenl - attended, and the committee and teaching staff worked hard tor the enjoyment of all. Bathiug proved a favourite pastime.
The licensing election, as Car as Manakan was concerned, passed oil quietly, very little interest being taken.
Mrs Bradshaw (postmistress) and Mr Newfion, two of Manakau's well-known residents, who are inmates of the Otaki Hospital, are both reported to be doing a 3 well as can be expected.
