ROBBERY AT LEVIN.
1 LARGE SUM OF MONEY STOLEN. A daring robbery took place in Levin during Friday night or early on Saturday morning, when the premises of Mr H. Walker, of Oxford Street, were entered and a sum of £25 in notes stolen. Tho local papeT says that Mr Walker returned home about 11 o'clock and shortly afterwards retired to bed. At .that time he bad £27 10s in his possession—the money being in two rolls, one containing £25 and the other £2 10s.
On awakening about. <> o'clock in the morning Mr Walker was surprised to sco his trousers lying on the bedroom floor, and a search showed that the largo roll of £25 has disappeared, but the odd £2 10s lay hear at hand, having evidently been dropped by the thief. The intruder had apparently gained admittance by the back door of the premises, which was unlocked, as none ol the other doors or windows were tampered with. On discovery of his loss Mr Walker communicated with the police, who now have the matter in hand.
Tho police captured the thief in the Foxton district, and recovered the stolen money intact.
