CASUALTIES.
Diuiedin, March 8. A lad named Davis, aged fifteen years, shot himself fatally in the chest, with a pea rifle at Karncleugh yesterday. Ho ms handling tho rifle when it exploded, and the bullet lodged in one of his ribs. A soldier-settler na'med James Smith was killed at Gladbrook, Middlemarch, on Satnrday. through a hay fork entering his back and penetrating his heart. Deceased, whose parents reside in the North Otago district, was married only a few weeks ago. Whakatane, March 8. Mr J. Moody, secretary of tho VVhakntane Racing Club and the Opouria'o Dairy Company. Ltd., had Several ribs broken while exercising a racehorse for the coming meeting. The horse ehicd and fell. Christchnrcli, March 8. At an inquest concerning the death of F. S. S. Ca verb ill, evidence was given by three doctors regarding tho administration of the'anaesthetic and tho post-mortem examination. The coroner, in finding that death was due to cardiac syncope, due to respiratory stoppage, said that all reasonable precautions had been taken in administering the anaesthetic. Dunedin, March 8. A young woman named Agnes Andrews, whose parents reside at Mosgiel. was drowned at the Warrington beach this afternoon. The body has been recovered, but no particulars are available.
On Sunday morning a collision occurreuin Mastcrton between a motor car driven by Mr W. Kebbell and a motor cycle carrying Mr and Mrs A. W. Falconer and two children. One of tho latter was severely injured abont the head, but the other occupants of the motor cycle escaped with a shaking.
