LEVIN HORTICULTURAL SHOW.

The Levin Horticultural and Industrial Society's Autumn Show was

opened yesterday, and is being continued to-day. Unfortunately the weather was wet during tho greater part in tho day, which affected the attendance. However, a goodly number were present, and (be show was a success in every way.

The show was opened by Mr D. M. Matheson (Mayor o£ Levin), who was Introduced by the president of the Society (Mr Ncill). Mr Matheson congratulated the Society on the excellent show, and complimented the officials on the splendid organisation.

The entry wan a fair average, one, totalling about <lf>4, cut blooms and vegetables being much the strongest classes, with 116 and 10-1 entries re-

spectively, j The cut flowers were a very fine lot. There wore eight collections of twelve varieties, and four of sixteen varieties, and these in themselves made a very fine array, though cramped for space I'or proper exhibition. There were fifteen entries for three asters, Mrs K. ProTXSC being first and C. Bemmon •second. Mrs Prouse also won a number of other prizes, including first for collection of sixteen varieties of cut flowers, with Mrs R. Bcvau second. Mrs E. Bevan won firsts for double fuchsias, single geraniums, and lilium, and was second for gladioli. Mr Prank Penn took first for three roses (Mr T. Mason second), and second for collection of twelve varieties of cut flowers, 'Miss Kebbell being first id this latter class. The champion dahlia of the show was a line panmy-flowered dahlia. Amphion. exhibited by Mr T. Mason, of Feilding. Mrs R. Prouse was the most successful exhibitor in pot plants. The decorative section was not so large as usual, though there was good competition for decorated table (seven entries) and decorated mantelpiece (seven entries). Mrs W. M. Clark won first honours in both these interesting clauses, Mts Heading being second for mantel and Miss Goldsmith h.e.. while Miss P. Prouse was second for table and Mrs D. S. McKenzio h.e. Mrs Gorringe won the special prize for vase for tea-table, Miss Kebbell second, and Miss P. Prouse li.c. (nine entries). There was a fair display of fruit. Mr Blackburn wen most of the apple awards, and Mr Keill those for peaches. Mrs *K. Bevan secured second for Jonathan apples. The vegetable section was a capita! one. the entry being a large one. and

including many fine specimens. Doubtless owing to the cost of cooking ingredients, the display of home industries was not so large as usual. Messrs A. X Shailer and Frank Mason staged nice trade exhibits, Air Mason having a particularly fine lot of cactus dahlias.
