PROFITEERS.
Nothing can convince rrs that the are nor being victimised by profiteers in all branches of trade, states l an exchange. All the suave "explanations" of the wholesale houses £nc j generalities indulged in by politicians are. in face or the facts, so much bunt combe. If the Government vrtre 1 honest in its endeavours to keep, dowa j prices it could do so easily, but it rrej fers to shilly-shally and split rAirs I instead of co-ordinating ail its departI meats in an endeavonr to get at the I root of the trouble. It is roforioni that if the rsost oia*e worked in with : Zealand could be Hid by the heels in a< month, and it is equally pat-tat that if the- Government ■would on>r go to the trouble of comparing its Customs declarations with the price; importers charge" retailers" for goods frcra overseas, profiteering in that direction would beeo-re impossible.
