MARDI GRAS AT LEVIN
Asthe result of Levin's first March Gras which ended on Wednesday night, after being in progress for the past three weeks, nearly £I4OO was raised In the queen carnival contest the Anal voting was:-For Maori queen (Miss Bell) 93,621; Sports (Miss Tubman), Macdonnel), 101.390; F.urfle~ (Miss §5,000; Hokio (Miss Walker), 50,591. A concert was held at Otalu on Wednesday night to further the candidature of Miss Bell, but on account of very heavy rain the attendance was poor The programme, submitted by Levi., and district performers, was only fair although items by Miss Billic Better and Mr Mortensen were much above the ordinary.
