PARAPARAUMU NOTES.
Mr Ben. Mantle . of Paraparaumu, has made an effort to portray the New Zealand of the old days in his Maori )War drama. “The Ixaiwhakakos, of Wanganui Yeoman,” to be presented at the Opera House (Wellington) next week. The period is the close of the first Maori War, between 1864 and 186 S. Characters such as the Hon. Colonel Whitmore (the Commander-in-Chicf of Colonial Forces), Major Atkinson, von Tempsky, Ropata (the hero of Ngatapa), “Tommy” Adamson (the V.C. scout), Major Nokes, Loyal Albert (the native missioner), Petenc (his wife), Richard John Seddon on the old diggings, and the Ngatoporo guard are seen or mentioned in the play. The scenery also will be typical of New Zealand. The first act shows the heart of the bush, between Wanganui and Taumarumii, with distant views of Tongariro, Ruapehu, and Ngnruahoe, and the other acts are said to be equally as pretty.
