> r - AFFSTAI; MEETING. The annual meeting of subscribers iu the Otaki Public Library was held in frr> reading-room cm Friday night last, hen there were present: Bcv. G. F. e-trie, M.A. (chairman), hlesdames Fox, Bwabev and Cook, Messrs AV. E. Smith and F. Penn. The balance sheet presented showed the following "items of receipts and expenditure: llecoipts: Members’ subscriptions. £23 7s (id; cash donation, £1; shop takings, £i.j Ss 3tl; rents, £1 (>s; Town Board subsidy, £5: sale waste paper, 2s; Government subsidy, £l3 ils lid. Total, £fil 15s 3d. Expenditure:’ Librarian, £0 11 s Id; stationery, etc., £J 10s; fuel, lighting and cleaning, £5 13s lull; printing and advertising, £2 8s 6d; insurance, £1 Ss Sil; rates. 10s: now books, £l-1 us 2d; additions to building (on account), £l3; bank interest and ices, £5 10s 3d; petty expenses, 10s. The overdraft at the commencement of the year was £Ol 0s lid, and now blood at £122 2s Bd. There were cheques outstanding amounting to £S 17s sd. Mr H. Witehell, who had audited the accounts, certified that the accounts were correct “in so far as the incomplete books and vouchers disclosed. •’ The meeting adopted the balancefchcot. and it was resolved to .forward a copy to the Government, with a covering letter explaining the “auditor’s tag.” If was resolved to increase the insurance on the building by another £IOO. The chairman explained that the additions and improvements to the buildings had been completed at a total cost, to date, of £7l. Another tank was required. and certain plumbing, for which a tender of £l2 7s (id had been received. The meeting resolved to accept the tender, also to make provision for waste water drainage.
Satisfaction was expressed with the L'-k done by Mr Horace Freeman in building, etc. *"-» The "librarian (Mr.- Fox) kindly offered to forego six months' salary m 'order to secure the additional tank, but the meeting, while thanking Mrs Fox for her genereus offer, thought it not a fair thing to accept same. .;, -■'■•.. Chairman welcomed the new Waiian, and exprcsed a hope that she would be happy in her position. The officer.- for the ensuing year were' elected as follows:—Chairman. Sev. G. F, Petrie, M.A.; committee, Mesdanies Swabey u r.d Cook, Miss O'fiourke. Messrs W. B, Smith. G. "W. Kirk, and Frank Penn; secretary and treasurer, the librarian; auditor, Mr H, Witchell; book purchasing committee. Chairman. Mrs Swabey and Mr G. W. Kirk.
Hearty votes of thanks wore accorded the chairman and auditor for their past services, special mention being made of the strenuous year the chairman had had. and the great amount of splendid* work he had done during the absence of a librarian, and in connection with the additions to the buddings. __
