INCIDENT ON TRAIN.
Some little commotion was caused on the up train on Friday evening between Johnsonville and Porirua by an unruly and pugnacious passenger, who;, without provocation, attacked another passenger (a parity disabled man) and knocked him about rather severely. Others interfered, and the offender was pushed out of the carriage. He then smashed the glass window of one of the doors, sustaining a very severe cut on his hand in so doing, and generally behaved like a madman. On reaching the Porirua station the services of a police officer were requisitioned, and the man attempted to effect his escape, but was run down at the end of the station and handcuffed. The man had been drinking very heavily, and was HOt in a lit condition for travelling. The blood from his wound made a ghastly mess, and the unpleasant inei- , dent caused a mild sensation on the ■ train. Occurrences of this kind have | been too common of late, and it is i hoped offenders will be severely \ punished. As a sequel to the incident, a fireman named Basil Brown was charged at the Wellington S.M. Court on Saturday with being found drunk in the Poi'irua railway station, with wilfully damaging a pane of glass, value 12s lid, the property of the New Zealand Government, and further with assaulting some person unknown between "Wellington and Porirua.
