"THE SENTIMENTAL BLOKE." TO-NIGHT.
Nothing better in the picture world has been presented to an Otaki public for some months than the above, which is a screen classic in eight acts, adapted from the world • famous verses of C. J. Dennis. It is brimful of wit, the acting is brilliant, while the pretty scenes must be seen to be admired —above all the ending is the one desired. We recommend those who have read the book K> see the film, while those who have not read it should not miss the opportunity of attending.
"JOAN OP PLATTSBURG."
There is an unusual and very idyllic "Joan of Plattsburg," which is to be shown at tho Theatre to-morrow night. Mabel Normand is the star, but she plays a part totally unlike anything she has previously done. Instead of being a merry little lady always up to pranks, she becomes an ignorant wait' who hears the story of Joan of Arc and is immediately seized with a desire to do similar deeds for her own country. The desire is apparently realised, because she starts hearing "voices" in a most mysterious manner, and acting on a sudden impulse she tells all about them to a young American officer who has previously done her a kindness. The result is quite surprising, and the way in which she thereby succeeds in doing a great service for her country makes a vigorous and exciting climax to a fme story. A pleading feature of the drama is the transition of Joan from the homeless waif to a smart young lady, and this rounds off a love theme of great beauty. The story is a delightful welding of pathos and fantasy, and although it is based on a war happening this aspect is merely incidental. Mabel reveals herself in a new emotional aspect altogether in this film.
"SILENT MYSTERY."
The above is a first-class serial, and will be shown, probably each Thursday, commencing on February 2fith.
