FATAL COLLISION.

TRAIN CRASHES INTO TRAP.

A level crossing accident occurred on the Foxton line on Monday afternoon. The south-bound Napier express, which was running a little late, was approaching the crossing when a vehicle was noticed near the line. Although tho brakes were promptly applied and the train pulled up,.the vehicle was struck. The gig was wrecked and the horse killed outright. The occupants, Mr and M's _ Thoxn.s Sandford, - of Monrad Street, who are an elderly couple, were thrown out. Mrs Sandford was very badly injured and rendered unconscious. Tho full extent of Mr Sandford’s injuries have not yet been ascertained. They w-ere immediately removed to the hospital, where Mrs Sandford died about six o’clock. It is understood that it had been the intention of Mr and Mrs Sandford to. visit the Old Country next month. — “Manawatu Daily Times.’’
