A LEVIN INDUSTRY.
MESSRS HARVEY AND CO
Among the many enterprising business people of Levin. Messrs Harvey and Co. deserve a word of special mention. For some years this firm has carried on business as builders, cabinetmakers and house furnishers, and built up tin excellent connection. Borne little time tigo the firm increased its capital and very extensively increased the sphere ol' its operations, mainly in the direction of adding an up-to-date sawmilling plant to the already large establishment. On visiting the works a few days ago, an “Otaki Mail" representative was surprised at the extent of the industry. A splendid, up-to-date sawmilling plant, including provision for breaking-down, sawing, planing and various other branches, is in full swing, and the regular output is most satisfactory’. At present a fine sui-ply of splendid white pine logs is being brought in from the Kuku district, and thc.-O arc being used for the manufacture nf butter boxes, in which line a good volume of business is being done. A powerful steam engine provides the power for the main works, while for other extensive machinery plant a gits engine is used. Being enabled to supply their own timber in large quantities. and to dress, turn and manufacture it on the premises without any costly handling. Messrs Harvey and Co. are thus enabled to serve the public particularly well. A very large business has been built up in the house furnishing line, while all kinds of joinery, etc., are turned out most expeditiously and economically. Some idea of the magnitude of the business may be gauged by the fact that the firm’s wage bill amounts to £175 weekly. Messrs Harvey and Co. do an extensive trade all along this coast, and we confidently recommend anyone wanting building, household furnishings, etc., to consult them. A large stock is kept on the Levin premises, which are w-ell worthy of a careful inspection, while any article will be made to order. We congratulate Messrs Harvey and Co. on their business enterprise, ana wish them all the success that they deserve.
