ALL SAINTS' SUNDAY SCHOOLS.

ANNUAL RE-TJNION.

The annual prize-giving ceremony

and social re-union in connection with Itiio Anglican Sunday Schools of Otaki took place on Monday night, when Brights' Theatre was utilised for the purpose. Although the big buildiug was not Jillcd there was a large number of children, parents and friends present, and enthusiasm prevailed throughout.

The Kev. G. F. Petrie, M.A., stated that it. was very gratifying to know that the schools had kept well up to the standard of past years —in fact had 3iever been better, while it was alsi pleasing to know that parents now sent their children regularly to school. It was also nice to know that the children had been keen in their work and had put up records as far as attendance was eoncerncdand the high marks attained. Keen competition had been displayed throughout, and several of those beaten ;t'or prizes were only behind by a very narrow margin of marks. He regretted that it was necessary to have three schools instead of one main school, but this was a matter that could not be helped. There was the main school,, a branch at Otaki Railway, and a third one—partly pakelia. partly Maori —which was conducted by Miss Neilands. The Kev. Mr Petrio made i'celing reference to the loss of Miss Rath Swnbcy. one of the brightest and most promising girls of the school, and whose memory was going to be perpetuated by two prizes being given— ' one for the best boy and the other for j ■the best girl, to bo awarded by the j votes of scholars. The test would em- ' brace the best behaved, the most Chris- , tianlikc, the most punctual, thoughtful, jjcscpectful and manly child. The j urged all to do their best to win such a prize, advised them when they promised to do a thing to keep their word, not be ;i sneaker, but open, j frank and loyal. At a. iater stage the | Kev. Mr Petrie eulogised the excellent work accomplished by Miss Neilands, | and referred to her untiring work, her | faithful attention and self-sacrifice. , Miss Neilands, ho said, deserved all the J thanks that could be accorded her. The [ •Rev. Mr Petrie then announced that a valuable piize (offered by Mrs J. S. ' Pole)" .would be given for the bestinaruicre'd boy in the upper classes. The J " .vicar gave the scholars all good, sound ! odvice" after jvhich he spoke highly of ( rte fine work erf Mrs Swabey, Misses j • Granfield and Adsett. and Mr Kershaw, ~ and announced the fact that Miss Kirk was shortly joining the teaching staff. Mr Petric's remarks were frequently appP Hied.
