Mr John Sharp Johnstone, at one time a well-known resident o£ Palmerston, bat lately of Levin, died in a private hospital at Palmerston North on Sunday, aged 55 years. Mr P. He-nnessy, or Shannon, has just received a cable that his two sons have passed their final for their degree in medicine and surgery. It is their intention to stay at Home for tvo years. Mrs Jones, the Misses Jone,. and Mi Jones (mother, sisters and brother to Messrs Clinton end Harold .Tones, of .this town) lave taken up residence at Or ski, after residing for some years at the New Hebrides. The family resided at Otaki several years ago. after which they vest to Fiji, and later to the New
Mr E. O. Jepson, brother to Messrs Jepson Bros., of Waihoanga, is at present in hospital in Hamilton. Latest advices report him to be improving.
A pleasing little function took place at tko “breaking-up” ceremony at the Otaki State school yesterday afternoon, when Mr A.B. Rudkin, on behalf of the girls of the upper standards, presented the headmaster (Mr W. B. Smith) with a little present in token of their appreciation of his patience and kindness to 'them at the school. The same girls presented Mr Rudkin with a little present. Both presentations came as surprises to the recipients.
