SPORTS GATHERING.
TO BE HELD AT OTAKI. A meeting of members of tho committee elected to carry out a sports meeting in connection with the Tecontly formed branch of the Y.M.C.A. met at the'Druids’ Hall on Wednesday evening.
Mr A. E. Rudkin occupied the chair and explained that it had been previously arranged to hold the gathering on January 14th. A later proposal, however, was made that Anniversary Day (22nd January) would be preferable. On account of counter-attrac-tions on that day the meeting decided to adhere to the 14th. Mr Rudkin, who was unable to accept the position of secretary, agreed to carry on till he left for his holidays, and then to arrange for'a suitablo person to act in his place. It was agreed that the sports bo held on the Otaki Domain, and that the ground receive thorough preparation for tho fixture. Messrs W. Taylor, A. Adsctt, and A. Anderson were elected a ground committee, and were promised support from other members, while Messrs T. B. Bax, Geo. Noble, and H. Nicolson were appointed to draw up a programme of events and submit to a mooting to be held at an early date. The same three were also appointed as a printing committee.
'Messrs J. D.-Howell and A. Anderson- offered to do canvassing, while the former signified his intention of giving suitable mementoes for a fivc-asido hockey tournament. A gift of ten shillings was rcaoivcd from Mr H. Cockrell, while Mr Walter Taylor offered three sacks' of potatoes as a sports prize.
It was decided to charge one shilling admission, children under 12 years to be admitted free, ami to sell by auction the right of supplying refreshments.
Tho following officials were appointed:—Handicappers, Mr M. H. Ayre and a Paraparuumu representative; starter, Mr Geo. Watson; judges, Messrs Bax and Noble; treasurer, Mr Ayrc. At an informal discussion the matter of , securing cricket, material was con-' sidcred, it. being thought by some that part of the profits from the sports gathering should be devoted for the purpose, while others considered it advisable to call a meeting of the Gymnasium Club with a View of getting its surplus for the purchase of material. It was finally decided that members of the “Gym” be called together and the matter discussed. It was further pointed out by a letter from Mr H. E. Keys, of Levin, that his club was anxious for a match. Nothing, however, was done i* the matter:
