Dr. Pomare was among the visitors to Otaki yesterday.
Mr IV. Bade, of the Paekakariki railway staff, has been transferred to Pal merston North.
The death has occurred of Mrs Jacobson, of Foxton, aged 29 years. Deceased, who was much respected, only recently arrived from England.
Mr Hone McMillan, of Koputaroa, intends visiting the North Auckland district shortly for health recruiting purposes. The Rev. G. F. Petrie, M.A., has been indisposed for some little time past, suffering from a slight attack of bronchitis, and is still far from well.
Mrs Fox, the newly-appointed librarian, is expected to arrive in Otaki to-day, and will almost immediately take up her duties at the library.
On enquiry this afternoon v.e ascertained that Mr A. J. E.-Ishcrwood, of Otaki, who took ill while at Upper Hutt yesterday, is feeling better today, and is expected home to-night.
Mr W. Hughes, manager of the Bank of Australasia at Levin, who has been promoted to the position of manager of the Temuka branch of the bank, will leave Levin just before Christma3 in all probability. He will be followed at Levin by Mr Kimball, of H&wera.
Mr J. W. Hodgson (our local postmaster), \ ho has been enjoying a wellearned ht 'iday, is expected to return to Otaki to-«’ jy, with Mrs Hodgson, and will iauni ilately resume his duties at Ofaki.
Mr Gee ge Held, an old and greatly esteemed esident of Napier, is dead. Mr IJeid was bora in the North of Ireland some 74 years ago, and landed in New Zealand on the Otaki beach, in the City 'of Auckland. Later he went to Napier, where he has resided since.
Sir James G. ‘Wilson has been unanimously re-elected chairman of the Manawata County Council. Sir James was elected chairman in September, 1395, and now. after a chairmanship of 21 years, he is still going strong. He was a councillor for some years before that. This must constitute a record.
A notable retirement from the active work of the Methodist ministry is the Rev. T. G. Hammond, who goes OH superannuation nest year. Mr Hammond entered the ministry in 1374, and spent several years in the English work of the Dominion, bat for the last 35 year? be has been engaged in work among the Maoris.
