Mr W. Bennett, of tho Bank of New Zealand staff, Otaki, leaves to-morrow for his annual leave. His place will be taken temporarily by Mr Cyril Rishworth, of Lower Hutt. A quiet wedding was solemnised at Foxton on Saturday, when Mr Alex. McGregor Ross was married to Miss M. A. Collins, of the State school staff. Miss McMurray was bridesmaid and Mr J. Collins best man. The death occurred at Foxton on Monday of Charles Henry Webb, aged 73 years. Deceased, who has resided in Foxton for about 45 years, was born in Cambridge (England) and came f<> New Zealand in the Star of India in 1873. Mr W. Hughes, manager of the Bank of Australasia at Levin for the past nine years, has received notice of his transference to Tcniuku, South Canterbury, in a few weeks’ time. Mr Hughes has been a valued member of , the community, and will be much missed from the district, especially in musical circles. There died at Duvanchellc’s Bay. Akaroa, on Monday last, a notable figure in the person of Mons. Joseph Libeau, tho last of the French emigrants who arrived in Akaroa rn 1840 in the Comte do Paris. He was born in Rochefort in 1834, and was just under six years of age when his parents embarked in the Comcto de Paris for New Zealand. Deceased celebrated his golden wedding in 1906. He had a family ox fourteen, twelve of whom survive him, and at the time of his death he had fully one hundred grand-children and twelve great-grandchildren. A Press Association telegram announces the death in Wellington of Mr John Gavin Duncan, chairman of directory of the Arm of Kevin and C'o., Ltd., in his 81st year. He for many years and up to the time of his death Consul for Portugal and at one time Concular Agent for the United States. He was a native of Aberdeen, uwj on his arrival in Wellington a good many years ago joined Mr W. H. Devin in the business with which he was associated up to the time of his death. Apart from occupying the position of president of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce in IS9O-91 and his connection with the Garrison Artillery (formerly the Wellington Navafe, with which he was associated for many years), in which he held the rank of lieutenenat-colonel, he took no part in public affairs.
