OBITUARY.
SUDDEN DEATH OF MB J. DAVIES, j Mr John Davies, licensee of the j .Manakau Hotel* died'suddenly at Levin , on Saturday, morning last. Deceased 'had'not been in good health for some time past,.and, after the fatal fire at -the Manakau Hotel a few days ago, (was prostrated- and compelled to seek medical advice. On Saturday morning he had a bad heart attack, and medical mid 'Was summoned. A second attack followed later on, and he succumbed. Death occurred at Levin, where Mr and Mrs Davies had resided since tlic lire. Mr J. Davies was brought up ns a chemist, but went en the land, farming with success in the Wairoa district. Afterwards he entered the hotel business. He was licensee of the Albion Hotel, Shannon, for some time, and afterwards same to Manakau. Deceased, who was 43 years of age, was a veteran of the South African war, in which he was awarded tlic South Africun Medal and six bars. Ho was a keen sportsman. Ho leaves a wife, but no family. The funeral took place at Otaki yesterday at the Homan Catholic cemetery.
