STRAIGHT TALK.
In an election address in Invereargill, the Rev. J. K. Archer, a Labour candidate, made a few pertinent remarks, among which was the following:—He did not want to hurt the feelings of any of his church people, but there was only one fit name for some church people to-day, and' that was "wowser." A decent man —he did not care what his personal attitude towards religion was—never called a genuitjft Christian a wowser. It was the spurious Christian he called a wowser, and there was no other suitable name for him. And there were some church people whom Jesus if He were here would call scribes, Pharisees and hypocrites—they strained at the gnat of totalisator speculation and swallowed the camel of land speculation.
