HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.
1 MONTHLY MEETING. Tho ordinary monthly mooting of tho above was held at Wellington yesterday. Present: Crs. P. (>. Cooper (chairman), W. Galloway, J. Wlntcman, W. •T. Howell, P. Cavanagh, and M. W. Welch. Correspondence. Correspondence was read and dealt I with as follows: Prom G. Brazier, on behalf of the roadmen in tho Wharcroa Hiding, thanking the Council for its rise in the wages of the men.—Tho Chairman said he was pleased to see someone grateful. From Internal Affairs Department, stating that fresh numerals could not be supplied under the present heading to comply with motor regulations.— Decided to apply for the letters HC. i From Commissioner of Crown Lands re reading of Waddington settlement. and asking that 36 chains be formed and a bridge erected near Nai Nai settlement.—Cr. Welch thought it was a I matter for the Government to attend to, while the Chairman pointed out that there was such a shortage of labour that tho Council could not very well undertake the work.—Decided that Cr?. Welch, Cavanagh, the Chairman, and Engineer wait on the Commissioner of Crown Lands and discuss tho matProm Wellington City Council ro Butt road, and stating in reply that the expenditure in 1918-10 was £1251 Ms lid.—The Chairman said the Council should have a detailed expenditure —this was only fair to ratepayers, who had a right to know how money was eiCr. Welch considered tho City Council had wasted money by not securing quarries alongside the road instead of those at Johnsonvillc. Cr. Howell said why worry when flu Hutt Council had only tt small cost t* find towards its upkeep. He contended that the City Council, who had the largest (share to pay, would conserve their own interests by having the work done as cheaply as 'possible.—Decided to ask for a detailed account of the expenditure. Prom W. H. Field re compensation for damage done to roads during th» railway cut.—lt was stated that s claim had been put in, but so far no reply had been received. From Education Board relative to election of managers for the Pctone Technical School.—Cr. Welch appointed From C. Hale re culvert at Para- , paraumu, and stating it had given waj and that he was willing to give some *. r iin pipes to remedy the breach. —To be attended to, although the inspector sari Din pipes were insufficient in size. From John Wakeham, resigning as s member of the Taita Cemetery Boari on account of leaving the district.— Cr. Welch was asked to make an afpointment. From W. Randall, applying for an iscrease in salary for sanitary work a$ Plimmerton owing to increased cost oi living and the fact that some tweutj new settler, had lately taken up rejidence there.—Bequest not acceded tft Inspector's Report. The inspector (Mr Cudby) report*that of 440 yards of rock quarried, 213 had been crashed, carted, and spread oil the road between Pahautanui nil Parczr-ata at 9s 10|d per yard, inclsi'l ing the 3s per yard contract price is* quarrying. Some 169 yards had befli lorried to Pahautanui and broken ic i heap at a cost of 7s Id per yard, MOtf oi which had been placed on the roii north of Pahautanui in the Horoki^ valley. The balance, Tf, yards, vm placed on the roads by cart*. The plfflf was now crushing near the foot ot (M hill on the road to PKnnnertOtt. TO motor lorry was to be brought through from Pahautanui to Epani to haul <psS fot footpaths.
