S.M. COURT.
At the S.M. Court to : day the following cases were decided by Messrs Frank Bennett and W. Tompsitt, J's.P.: — J. D. Howell (Mr Staveley) v. A. V. Winge, claim £5 19s Id. Judgment was' given by default, costs 28s 6d.
R. C. Dick (Hutt County ranger) proceeded against Jas. Apliri for allowing a horse to wander. The ranger stated that he seized the horse at Paraparaumu and handed it over to owner. A line of ss, costs 19s 6d, was inflicted. Before the Court rose defendant appeared and stated the horse walked through a gate while under attention, and he considered Dick's act a-mean one. Tho Bench pointed out that already a lenient view had been taken and it could not reopen the case.
T. Gollop was similarly charged, lie wrote stating that his cow had been kept under control, but evidently had just got out as the ranger came along.
Dick said Gollop was a source of annoyance, was an old offender, and lias offended twice since the- present summons was issued. Fined 10s, costs 17s. ,
Smith Bros., similarly charged, wrote pleading guilty, but stating they did not make a practice of running stock on the roads. This was their first offence, and to prevent against a recurrence they were now doing a deal of fencing. Dick spoke in support of the letter.
Ordered to pay costs, 17s. F. R. Holtom' failed to appear on a similar charge. Dick stated the defendant made the excuse that his stock had broken through the fence, but in his (witness') opinion Holtom was after ehenpfced. Fined 10s. costs 17s.
