MANAWATU A. & P. SHOW
The S4th annual show of the above opened on Wednesday and concludes today. For the first two days the attendance was satisfactory. The entries received constituted a record, and in point of quality exee'eded many of the previous displays. The soldiers' section of fancy work, etc., was greatly admired, as was also the photography, cookery, fleece wools, etc., while the high-grade sheep, cattle, pigs and horses were most favourably commented upon. Stock owners were represented from many parts, and judges found competition exceptionally keen. The display of machinery was very' ordinary, while very few side-shows were in evidence. Mr Penney and his capable staff are to bo congratulated on their complete arrangements. Yesterday the Governor-General and Lady Liverpool were present, lind were entertained at luncheon by the Soeiety. Reference was also made to the fact that their Excellencies were shortly to depart for the Old Country, and were wished God-speed.
To-day is People's Bay, and in consequence it is expected that the crowd will be a large one. Mr R. B-. Harkness, of Te Horo, was a successful exhibitor in Jerseys at the Palmerston Show. He secured first for bull calved since July L 1916, and third for heifer calved since July 1, 1916. Mr R. L. Home, of Manakau, scored first for Jersey boll calved since July 1 3917, and second for heifer calved since July 1,1916. Mr W. Bevan, of ManakatC again scored in Friesians. taking first for bull calved since July 1, 1918, first and championship for cow in milk, second for heifer calved since July 1, 1916, end third for hiifer calved since July 1, 1917. Mr T. Colpman, of Bikiorangi, won first prize for Ayrshire cow or heifer calved prior to July 1, 1916, third for heifer calved smce July 1, 1916. and third lor fwo Ayrshire heifers calved since July 1, IMS.
