Mr J. J. Davison, of this district, [ who recently reformed from -the front, : left os Monday evening for Pah tat ua, where he has accepted a position. Admiral Lord Jellieoe has arrived at Honolulu. Aeroplanes' dropped Sower* on the warship which was given, an ectknsiaitic reception. Sergeant Merman Bennett, son oi Mr and Me?. Frank Bennett, of Ofaki, returned home by the lonic, after a lengthy term of 'active service. He reached hi* home a; Otak: on Monday. We are glad to koor that Sergeant Bennett it in excellent fettle.
Sergeant M. ,T. Naughton, late of Otaki, is mentioned among the soldiers whoso names have been brought to the notice of. the Secretary of State for War for valuable services rendered. The funeral of the late Mr Hetekia Mon took place this afternoon, when the remains were interred in the Maori cemetery. There was a representative following. The death occurred at Levin last night of Mr Henry Newport, an old and highly-esteemed resident. Mr Newport, who find reached the allotted span of ilfe, was in goodJiealth up to within a few days of his death, having leu an active, energetic life. Ho was a nurseryman by profession. He leaves a widow and many relatives (among whom is Mrs Clias. Whiting, of Tauranga, late of Paraparaumu).
