MAORILAND PICTURES.
The'reason the men predominate in the people crowding to see "The Spirit of 'l7" is probably due to the fact Katherine McDonald, co-starring with Jack Piekf ord, is one of the most beautiful women on the screen. This whimsical story, applied to situations bordering on the tragic, affords young Jack his long-hoped-for opportunity of playing a character that ho feels and lives and fairly revels in, providing as it does an object lesson to slackers and stay-at-homes. The picturesque old '.veterans of the Civil War , gouty, maimed, care-worn and bent —feel the "Spirit of 'l7'.' throbbing anew through their veins, and, armed with all kinds of weapons, create an enthusiastic climax, which brings down the house. This is the kind of picture.that immediately leaps into popular favour, and the exhibitor is full, of regrets—that he couldn't have it for a longer run. "The Spirit of 'l7" will be fehown on Tuesday night at the Theatre.
