MISCELLANEOUS.
The Christchurch “Press” has the following:—Sensing, perhaps, in somo subtle, canine way that such a gathering formed a link with his dead master, an Irish terrier fround his way into a meeting of the North Beach Tennis Club on Wednesday afternoon. A member rose to put the intruder out, but, on glancing at the dog’s collar, found that it was the pet of the Into champion tennis player, Anthony Wilding. Members gathered round, and a suggestion that the dog be elected an honorary member of the club was agreed to by acclamation. The dog was alone and came into the office in which the meeting was held quite of its own accord.
A drive round the Manawafu district convinces one that the farmers intend to profit by the lesson which they learned last winter. On every hand land is being put under the plough to provide feed for next winter, and many crops have already been sown. The early sown oats in many instances arc very backward, the damp, cold weather experienced during the early spring having prevented them making much progress, and in several instances sheep have been turned in to cat them off. The cattle, including dairy herds, are in very poor condition, and the sheep, especially breeding ewes, are looking anything but. well, but the lambs, especially black-faccd crosses, are excellent. The general opinion appears ro be that the percentage of lambs will not be very high this season. The Colonial, Motor Company, which owns the “Ford” agency for New Zealand, intends to erect a nine-storey warehouse on the site of the present building in Courtenay Place, a building that will be the tallest in Wellington. The new premises will run right back to York Street, and will be erected in scciious so as to interfere with the business as little as possible. That half of the building which is to face York Street will be erected lirst. Some 750 .tons of the constructional steel required for this big building has been ordered from England, and it is expected that a start will be made after the Christmas holidays. The architect is Mr J. M. Dawson, under whose super-' vision the building Trill be erected.— “Dominion.”
