PEACE MEMORIAL.
i PROPOSED OTAKI SCHEME. A meeting of the committee set up to consider proposals for a peace memorial at Otaki was held at the Town Board offices, Otaki, last night, the Bev. G. P. Ferric, M.A., occupying the chair, Mr J, S. Pole submitted rough sketches of proposed municipal buildings, which it was proposed to erect as a peace memorial, and the meeting discussed these fully. The piano provided for an ornate vestibule, suitable for erection of memorial tablet;, for fallen soldiers, municipal chamber.?, clerk's rooio, public reading-room, library, public conveniences, ere. The upper storey comprised a social ball, cloakrooms, kitchen, servery, etc. It was suggested that the proposed billiard room be erected on the ground floor, a» an annexe. Mr Pole estimated that these buildings, in brick or concrete, could be erected for £SOOO. A letter was rend from Messrs Ld. An*eombc, K. McDowell Smith and Associate architect?, offering their services* in preparation of plans, ete, for the proposed Otaki memorial. A general diseaasion ensued by the members present- It was generally thought that the setone was practicable, and, if district residents only did their part, there should be no great difficulty in raiding the Deeemary money for such an important proposal. It was decided to call a psMie meeting, place the scheme before «ane and leave it for the public to take definite aetioa in the matter. Those present thought it advisable to make special efforts to tseeure a large and representative attendance at the public meeting, »o that the ocisease might be fully diseased, and the project takes up enthusiastically.
