Miss Pauline Brown, recently oprr atcd on in a private hospital for appendicitis, is making splendid progress Miss Brown has now returned home.

Messrs Aspiuall and Maekorsey, of Canterbury and Wairarapa respectively, have purchased Mr Hant's farm at. Te Horo, and take possession from to-day.

Mr Finest Browu. who is now in Wellington in a delicate state of health, leaves shortly for Hanmer, whero ho will indulge in a quiet rest. It is hoped the change will be beneficial.

Wo regret to hear of the death of Mrs West (daughter of Mr C. Gooding, of Otaki), which occurred at Taraiiaki. Deceased leaves a husband and young family.

Mr Hector Webby, who has been stationed at tho Masterton Post: Office for some time, returned to his home at Otaki last evening. He now takes up a position at the Levin Post Office.

Miss Hodge, who is now staying in Wellington, leaves shortly for England to pursue her studies. Miss Hodge is an artist of no mean ability, anil should develop into a "topnotcher."

Mr W. Galloway, of Pahuutanui, met with an unfortunate accident at. Wellington on Monday night. He was alighting from a taxi, when it suddenly started oil', throwing him forcibly to tho road. Ho was severely shaken ami received nasty abrasion* to his fjieo and hands.

The Otaki Literary Committee yesterday appointed Mrs Fox, of Ormondvillc, H. 8., librarian and caretaker of the reading-room. Mrs Fo.v will not take up her duties for some little time, pending the completion of additions and improvements to the living rooms at the library buildings.

Miss Power leaves Otaki to-day for Wellington. She will be joined by Mrs Palmer in a few days, and the two will journey to Australia, where they will spend an extended holiday. Mrs Palmer has not been in good health, anil it is hoped she may benefit by the change.

The death occurred in Wellington of Mr Williams, a well-known and highlyrespected resident, and brother to Mr C. 11. Williams, of this town, with whom much sympathy is fell. The latter returned from Wellington last evening, after attending the funeral, which took place yesterday afternoon.

The Kcv. V. N. Knight, of the Bur ham Street Methodist inarch, Christ

church, has received a unanimous invitation to the Pitt "Street Church, Auckland. Mr Knight has accepted the call, and will leave for Auckland at the end of next March. The Rev, W. Heady, of Kaiapoi, has accepted an invitation to succeed the Rev. Knight at Durham Street. Both these calls arc subject to the approval of the next Methodist Conference, to be held in March.
