Y.M.C.A. (2) V. TE HOBO (1)

The hockey match Y.M.C.A. v. To Horo, played at the latter place on Wednesday, ended in somewhat of a surprise packet. The former clubthanks to E. H. Billens and Don Mathcson __ have struggled gamely on throughout the season with young and inexperienced players till the present time, and by dint of pcrserveranco have succeeded in lowering the colours of oue of the leading teams, securing a win on Wednesday last by two goals to one. The visitors pitted a most creditable game, and their win is a meritorious one, as a victory or e Horo was locked upon as a certainty—in fact, a final for the championship was being eagerly awaited between To Horo and Excelsior. Tc Horo claim to -have had a weak team, but this fault cannot be laid at the Y.M.C.A. ’s door. We congratulate the Levin team on their success. It is understood from leading Tc Horo players that then match with Excelsior will not eventuate, and if this is so Excelsior takes the championship by a lead of three points. We can only express regret that the two clubs will not meet, as a contest between them should draw a crowd and provide interest. However, under the circumstances, we congratulate tlie Excelsior Club on its win. K team as a whole has proved a sterling combination, composed chiefly of new players, but who have now blossomed out into players of note. All honour be to them!
