MANAKAU.

Nows has been received of the death of Mrs Ross Cooper (for years a resident, of this district). After leaving 'Manakau, Mr and Mrs Cooper went to Tc Awamutu to reside, and some little time ago moved on to Auckland, where i Mrs Cooper died on Sunday last, after a long and painful illness. The funeral took place on Monday. Mnj Cooper leaves a husband ami live children, for whom much sympathy is felt by friend* in this district. The late Mrs Cooper was daughter of Mr and Mrs (Beeson, of Ohau, and sister to Mr Bert. Glocson, of Manakau. TENNIS CLUB. S” ' A special general meeting of the members of the Manakau Tennis Club was held at the sehoolbouso last night (Mr Cotter iircsiding) for the purpose of considering the proposed rules for the c!ub. The rules prepared by a sub- | committee were presented. These wer* framed largely on the rules of the Otaki Club, and, after full discussion, were adopted, with slight alterations. It was decided that junior member* (under 21 years of age) be admitted at 7s fid for youths and 5* for ladies, with no entrance fees. It was also resolved to make a concession to members of on* family where three or wore became members, these being charged 10s for men and 5n for ladies, pic* the ordinary entry foes. The regular membership fc-es are 15« for men and 7s Cd for ladies, with entry fees of s:s and 2s fid respectively.
A ssub-commit tee, comprising Mr« Mickle, Messrs Cotter and P. Kimcor, was set up to confer with the contractor re marking court, erecting post*, etc.
It is hoped that everything will be in readiness for the opening of the sk**on, which has been set down for October Bth.
