.y A AVET AUGUST. Tho month of August just past was a particularly wet one, rain falling on no less than 23 days. The total for the month was l.dlin, and the maximum Call was .!)2in, on tho 17th. In August of last year only l.(!2in fell, and tho average for August for the past fifteen years was 2.94 m. AYhile we have had a wet August, in Nelson it was comparatively dry, only 2.l(iin of rain falling, of which no less than I.fiin fell on one day. and flic balance being spread over ten other days, fine yearly average rainfall in Nelson is about 37 inches, and during the first eight months of 1919 the fall in that town Ims been only 13.87 inches, ihe Nelson "Mail” says the dry season has already had its effect on growth and the outlook is rather serious. At Foxton August’s rainfall totalled 3.50 in. Levin’s rainfall for August totalled 4.27 in, the maximum fall being .95iti on the 17th, and there being eleven days in the mouth without rain.
