POLITICAL NOTES.
The “Post” reports that there is no likelihood of an early general election. There is a certain amount of necessary legislation that must be put through before an election can be held. On Monday General Sir Andrew Bussell, in his reply to the deputation which waited on him last week, definitely refused to contest the Napier seat.
“Will the Prime Alinister introduce a . bill this session to establish the scheme : of housing the workers at a Tental of , 10s lid per week, and at a total expendi- ; turc of £4,000,000, outlined by Sir Jos. i Ward, and will lie ask the assistance i of the Leader of the Opposition in regard to the matter?” This was a question given nbtice of in the Hou-e of Representatives by Air P. Fraser, Labour j member for Wellington Central. Ap- ! plause and laughter showed that the j House realised the piquancy of the < situation. The Prime Minister, interviewed by a • “Times” representative at a late hour last night, or rather very early this [ morning—sgid that he had no statement | to make as to the appointment of any ! further Ministers, nor as to the portI folios to be allotted to the two Ministers. (the Hons. W. Nosworthy and J. B. Hiue) already appointed. “I haven’t been able to give a thought to the latter point,” stated Air Massey. “ And. as a matter of fact, it can hardly be dealt with till the other matter is settled.” It is understood that -no mure Reform Minister, at least, is to be appointed shortly, if not two. An announcement will probably be made to-day or at latest to morrow.
