PEACE MEMORIAL FOR OTAKI.
DONATION OF £750 TO START SCHEME. ! A meeting of the committee set up some time ago to devise a scheme for erecting municipal buildings at Otaki as a peace memorial was held at the Town Board office last night. Present: Messrs J. S. Pole (chairman). L. St. George. H. Nicolson. Byron"" Brown, Frank Penn, and Rev. Blarhwayt. An apology was received for the absence of Mr H. Witchell. It was reported that members of the j Bright family iiad offered a sum of £750 (three donations of £250 each) for the proposed peace memorial, provided something substantial and worthy of the town were erected. This announcement was received with appreciation. A lengthy discussion ensued with regard to the proposal. It was thought that some rough idea of the cost of a suitable building should be secured. and Mr J. S. Pole's kind ofxeT to prepare a rough design with approximate estimates for same was received with thanki. A sub-committee was set up. comprising Messrs .7. S. Pole. L. St. George and Frank Penn, io consider-the class of Inrilding required, and prepare a scheme for securing the required money for same, to report to another committea meeting as soon as possible. On receipt of the sub-committee's report the committee will go fully into the matter and report progress to a public meeiag.
