POTATOES AND ONIONS. . Not many potatoes aro offering from the South Island at the present time, as some holders look for greatly increased prices next month and October. It was expected that a large shipment of potatoes would be got away by tho steamer leaving for Sydney this week, but at tho last moment it was reported labour could not bo obtained to load the potatoes. These tubers have been ready for shipment for some time now, and new sacks .were specially obtained for" tho potatoes to be rebagged. No doubt during the next day or two it will be shown whether shipment will finally bo made. Meantime a good demand on the spot is being met with. Onions are selling well and the market has advanced. Potatoes, prime £ll 10s to £l2 per ton, good £lO 5s to £lO los; onions, £l9 to £2O per ton. Other Vegetables.
In every instance extreme values continue to rule for all descriptions of vegetables. Cauliflowers, cabbages, pumpkins, parsnips, and lettuce in particular command exceptionally high values.
Cauliflowers, choice large 20s to 23s sack, prime 12s to 10s, good 7s to 9s; cabbages, choice 14s to ISs sack, prime lis to 13s, good 6s to Ss; cucumbers, large lis to 13s dozen, small Ss to 10s; lettuce, choice fresh 8s to 10s case, prime 5a to 6s; pumpkins, choice 17s to 19s sack; carrots, choice 10s to 12s sack, prime 6s to Ss; parsnips, choice 12s to 15s'sack, prime Ss to 10s; turnips, Is 6d to 2s Od sack; spinach, -is to Gs sack; kumaras, 20s to 21s case. Eggs. Prices for fresh eggs have further declined owing to greatly increased supplies arriving, values now varying from Is 5d to Is 6d per dozen.
