OHAU.

NEW POST OFFICE WANTED. A very large and enthusiastic meeting wa* held at the Ohau Institute on Friday night last in connection with an agitation for a new post oflieo for Ohau. Mr C. I. Darkness, who was voted to the chair, explained that a petition hud been circulated, asking for a new post Office at Ohau. This petition had been circulated without request from any public meeting, and was really of a semi-private nature, though ho doubt it was a move in tho right diroetio*. Mr .T. Howard Andrew explained that he had been approached by several people, who felt that something should be done to get a new post offiee, tho present building being altogether inadequate. The speaker had interviewed Mr Field, member for the district, who had expressed his sympathy with tho movement, and had suggested that a. petition bo signed and presented to bring pressure to bear on the authorities. Mr Andrew said he felt he was. justified in circulating the petition, to which 150 signatures had been secured. The explanation was regarded as satisfactory by tho meeting. The discussed the project very fully, and the question of site for new building, it being unanimously resolved to recommend that the proposed post office bo erected somewhere in the vicinity of the four cross roads. . The meeting decided 1» recommend that the office site owned by the Department be sold. It was resolved that a deputation present the petition to the Department, same to comprise Messrs Hammond Murray, A. Whiley, C. I. Darkness and Howard Andrew, Mr Harkness to act as convener. Mr Bowles reported that he had received a letter from Mr W. 11. Field, M.P.. promising his best support to the project, the new building being badly required. The matter of a dailwrural delivery of letters was also venr.iated, and it was resolved to endeavour to secure such an innovation also. The question of a telephone exchange for Ohau was also discussed, find tho promises of support in the room wore nearly sufficient to secure an exchange. Mrs Bradshaw (Manakau postmistress), who war present at the meeting, gave much useful information re the working of telephone exchanges, and the advantages that accrued from such conveni-
