CHAMPIONSHIP FIXTURES.

August 27: Te Horo v. Excelsior, at To Horo; Otaki v. Y.M.0.A., at Levin; Taimii a b?o.

Probably the best match of the season will be the one at To Horo oirWednesday, when the Excelsior (Levin) clash sticks with the local boys. Both teams are now greatly improved, their combination is splendid, and their general all-round play much above mediocre. The majority are youngplayers and keen on their game, and on .Wednesday will, without doubt, put up a stubborn fight. Interest is keen, and therefore spectators should be present in full force. A word of advice should net be out of season: Let both sides play the game in a sportsmanlike manner, play it keenly and for all it is worth, but on no account play roughly. A good, hard, clean, honest contest should be the aim of both teams, and whichever wins let the losers say goodluck to them.

The boys of the Otaki State school aud Convent engaged in a further'contest on Saturday, when intexest ran high. In the first struggle the game ended in a draw, while on Saturday last the Convent) lads seemed to have the game well in hand when the State sehool boys redoubled their efforts and secured a win. The former played vigorously from tho start, and Aithur Bennett by smart play and by exhibiting tho tactics of a much older player, scored two goals in good style. The State school boys put a deal of dash into thoir play in the second half, and in record time scercd three goals, Edwards (2) and Watts finding tho net in businessliko style, and thus securing a win, 3—2. Tho game, on the whole, was of an oven nature, and tho majority of tho boys showed fine form and gave a splendid exhibition of stick work ■and combination. Messrs Nicolson and Guldens were referees.
