From this date till further notice Mr Mackenzie's dental rooms at Otaki Railway will be open on Wednesdays and Thursdays, hours 9.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. lifconnection with the new Girls' High School, the Palmerston North High School Board has decided to call for applications for the position of lady principal at a salary of £IOO per annum. The report of the British War Cabinet on the operations in 1918 states that the grand total of the Empire's troops, not including the Chinese labour units, was 8,654,467. The total casualties, including prisoners and missing, was 3,061,921. The total naval tonnage was (5,300,000 tons.
The Auckland Racing Club's Stakes for the coming season of four meetings will total £40,550. The Auckland Cup will be valued at £3OOO. The Great Northern Foal Stakes have been raised to £ISOO, and both the Great Northern Hurdles and Steeples are worth £ISOO as formerly. The Auckland Plate, worth £750, has been reinstated. All claims for enrolment and alterations in address can be obtained at the post office or from the letter carrier. The latter will distribute and collect enrolment forms. All enrolment forms should be handed to the local postmaster, who is responsible for the Otaki portion of the roll. ;
The coastal steamer Kennedy was brought oil the patent slip at Wellington on Wednesday, after completing her overhaul and repairs. The vessel is to have Wellington to-day in her new running to Foxton. Captain E. Harvey, formerly master of the Queen of the South, will be in command. Mr J. B. Owen, late captain of the Queen of the South, will be mate, and ilr F. Lawlon will be second mate, and Mr D. !;<>>.- will be in charge of the engine-
An Assyrian paper, "The Eagle," published in America, gives particulars of remarkable work done by an Assyrian from Mount Lebanon. On an egg he drew a map of Turkey and wrote on it 10,000 characters in Turkish and Assyrian. For this lie was offered 12300, but refused to part with his curio. On a grain of wheat he wrote 113 words in Arabic and sold it for £IOO, and on a grain of rice 31 words in Arabic.

By adjusting the electoral boundaries the Otaki electoral roll has been reduced by 2609 names. The last electoral roll contained 7-90 names and the present one 4651. '
Another "sale of furniture, vegetables, etc., will take place at Mr G. Anderson 'a auction mart to-morrow. These sales are proving very popular, and as bargains have been the order of the day Saturday's sale will no doubt be well patronised. - :
The presentation of trophies in connection with the Levin Rifle Club took place at a social on Thursday evening. Rifleman J. Munro was awarded the championship belt aud gold bar.

Mr G. Anderson has received instructions from Mr Stewart MclCenzie to sell firewood and sawing plant, particulars of which arc advertised elsewhere. The sale will take place at 1.30 on Wednesday next at Mr Docket t's farm.
A long-night dance, and one which promises to be as successful as any preceding one, will be hold at To Horo on Friday night next, when a large crowd is expected. The floor and music will be of the best, while supper will also be a.pleasing feature.
A social gathering will be held at the Druids' Hall on Monday next in honour of Mrs Blathwayt. w'rio has acted as organist at All Saints' Church for many years, and has assisted in church work in many other ways. All friends are'invited to attend, and there will doubtless be a huge gathering.

Charles Jenkins, a young man, well known in sporting circles, was some little time ago convicted at the Supreme Court on ;» charge of theft, but it was decided to give him a chance to pull himself together, and an order njas made that he should be sent to the Roto Roa Inebriates' Home for 19 months. It was: found, however, thai lie required -medical attention, and
arrangements were made for his treatment at the Wellington Public Hospital. On Wednesday he left the hospital without permission, and was shortly afterwards arrested for drunkene.". He is io be sent to Roto Roa.
