SOCIAL AND PRESENTATION.
TO MR AND MRS LARKIN. A meeting of citizens was held in the Druids' Hall on Friday night last for the purpose of organising a "send-off' and presentation to Mr and Mrs H. Larkin, who are about to leave Otaki. There was a representative attendance, while several apologies were received for non-attendance. Mr M H. Avre was elected chairman, and in his opening remarks explained the object of the gathering, adding that it would be a shame to allow such estimable citizens, who had made themselves popular and helped at various j functions, to depart without a fitting farewell. Mr Ralph Thomson, who with Mr Geo. Tattersall, had convened the meeting, stated that no definite plan of action had been laid down, but he suggested that lists be circulated in prominent places in the township. Mr Thomson also referred to the popularity of Mr and Mrs Larkin during their 9?.- years' stay in Otaki. "The Chairman stated that members of the Otaki Bowling Club were anxious to join in the send-off, and hoped no objection would be made to a presentation to Mr Larkin from the club on the evening of the social. It was agreed that all combine to make a big function, and that any separate body make a presentation if
it so desired. . ( Air J. R. Bills proposed that a social an d dance be held on the 27th inst. at . the Theatre, and that collectors be ap- . pionted to canvass the town in the meantime. , l On the motion of Mr Bills, saconded by Air Sathcrley, Messrs Glentworth. Baker. Tattersall, and Ayrc were appointed collectors, while, pending the appointment of a permanent secretary, Mr agreed to act pro tern. " Mr Thomson reported having Teceived *1 Is from Mrs Mcßeath, while Mr Tattersall reported that Mesdames Kilmister. Bills and Hodgson had ofj fered to attend to the catering portion of the programme. Messrs Penn and Brown were appointed a sub-committee to draw up the musical portion of the programme, while it was decided to ask the latter, as chairman of the Town Board, to make the presentation. •V desultorv discussion took place on the question of admission, it being finallv decided, on the motion of Mr Wells, seconded by Mr Stattcr, that admission be free to all, an amendment, proposed by Mr Kilmister, seconded by Mr TattGrsall, being lost by one vote. The following were elected a general committee: Messrs H. Xicolson, B. Thomson. L. Kilmister. G. Tattersall, J. K. Bills, T. Wells, and canvassers ex officio. It was decided that the eommitree meet on Friday nest {August -22nd). and that the canvassers hand their lists in on that evening.
