STRUGGLE FOR CORN. The “Petrogradskaia Pravda.” January 15, 1919, announces a victory won bv the food-requisitioning detachment sent from Petrograd to the Tambov province to commandeer corn from the peasants. The “enemy” were insurgent rich peasants, and the insurrection had spread over ten cantons. The Bolsheviks declare that this was an insurrection of rich peasants. But where were the village poor, if in ten cantons. with a population of not less than 50,01)0, all were “rich” peasants? The Bolshevik war for corn is growing fiercer. In one of the districts of the Kostroma province the peasants killed 27 of the Bolshevik detachment that had come to requisition corn. The fury of the peasants was so great thnl incredible brutalities accompanied the murders. 1919.
