PEACE CELEBRATIONS
OTAKI COMMITTEE MEETING A meeting of the Otaki Peace Cole bration Committee, was held last nigh at the Town Board office, when then were present: Messrs Bvrtm Browi (chairman), H. H. Olliver, M. 11. Ayre H. Nicolson, F. Penn, and Revs. Petri( and Slade.
The Chairman presented a statement of receipts and expenditure in connection with the Peace celebrations, showing that, when the Government subsidy was available, there would be sufficient to meet all liabilities.
Tho mooting decided to make a grant of £lO to the AVellington Silver Band, which had given its services gratuitously. Several members spoke in terms of highest praise of the excellent services rendered by the Band, which had “made" the celebrations.
Mr Olliver moved a special vote of thanks to the chairman for the most able way in which he had conducted the affairs in connection with the celebrations. Mr Brown had taken a great deal on his own shoulders, and Mr Olliver considered Otaki had been most fortunate in having such a gentleman in charge of affairs. Rev. Petrie, who seconded the motion, said ho fully endorsed Mr Olliver’s remarks. Mr Brown had been the life and soul of the whole affair, and had spent a great deal of lime and trouble over the arrangements. The motion was carried amidst ap-
plause. Mr Brown, in reply, said he had not done more than his duty, and said he was only one of many who had worked hard for the celebrations. He specially referred to the ladies’ committee, which had done exceptionally fine work in connection with the arrangements for refreshments. Mention was made of the generous spirit in which Messrs Bills and Moore Iwid given the free use of their motor lorry iu conveying the bandsmen-about during their stay in Otaki, and hearty votes of thanks were accorded that j firm, Mr Archie Smith, and tho many others who had assisted in conveying children and others in motors during tho celebrations. The Chairman explained that, application had been made for the Government subsidy forms, but these had not. yet. conic to hand. The accounts presented were passed for payment. The Chairman and Air Penn were deputed to prepare balance-sheet for Government, subsidy purposes, and to deal with a few other matters.
