The racing was good, and tall arrangements (thanks to Mr W. j McKenzie, secretary) complete. Pa* ! Averev-'erc; Avon the if unfor- J Hurdles, Sir Fanciful Avon both the Maiden ami I Waikanae Hack, Argo Avon the steeplei chase, Uthvai the Hack Handicap, .Maymourn the Hack Welter (beating the Olaki-traiaed Probity by inches only), SilemiM won the Bracelet, and •Stctwyj the Paporangi steeplechase. ■ f Arthur Oliver, the well-know* I jockey, made his first appearance in the ’ saddle since hi* return from active : service, at the Hunt Club meeting at , Palmerston. Ilia performances showed ; that he has still retained his cleverness as a rider, as he was placed in each j of the three races in which he rode, ; winning the last one on Sir Fanciful in fine style. His victory wa* received 5 with great jubilation by the returned ! soldiers present, and he received a great ] ovation, on returning to weigh in.
