MANAKAU NOTES.
The clearing sale of stock, implements, etc., held on behalf of Mr E. J. Knight on Monday was a .splendid one. and on the whole tiptop prices were received. The main Otaki-Manakau road is at present being torn up by the county's scarifier, and in consequence motorists and others sutler temporary inconvenience. Several spills, duo to large boulders, are reported, and travellers should beware. Sickness is fairly prevalent in the district, inftueuza colds predominating. A football club is being formed for the senior boys of the school, and presently they hope to challenge other schools for friendly contest. The Wellington Education Board some time ago promised the erection of a new class-room at the local school, but beyond the promise nothing has been done, and residents are wondering when the promise will materialise. It would also be interesting to knowhow much money has been granted. In the junior football match, Manakau v. Levin, played on Saturday, it was reported that "our boys" had lost. Such was not the case they scored a well-earned victory. - The tennis concert, to be held on Friday week, promises to be successful, but many high-class performers will be absent as they now rank as "professionals" —in fact in Levin a "ring" | has been formed, while a few shining lights in Otaki have taken a similar stond. Despite this some fine talent ]SJr been secured, and patrons may rely upon an enjoyable time. Andrew's sale is still in full swing, and bargains are the order of the day. Those who have not participated in the I "plums" should lose no time, as the , sale will soon be over.
