FOOTBALL.
Interest iu the good old game -of Rugby is awakening in this district, and considerable excitement was shown iu tho match, Otaki Juniors v. Shannon, played at Levin on Saturday. The latter team won by the narrow margin of three points to nil, but despite this Otaki had the best of the game. Field, for Otaki, played a great forward game, and was ably supported bjothers of , the vanguard. »The backs also put in solid work, the pick, however, being Bowden and Napier. With a quicker man behind the serum Otaki would have put up even a better display. Mr J. Smith was referee.
Hui Mai Juniors, who met Levin at Manakau, were defeated, 11-3, after a good game.
The match between Hui Mai and Levin (seniors) aroused a deal of interest. and the Levin recreation ground contained an eager, anxious throng of spectators. Although Levin won, 33-3,
the visitors had the best of tho first half, but form told its talc, and Levin piled on a score in the second. ' Mr Martin Wiuiata was referee. Messrs J. D. Howell (£3 Is) and L. .St. George (10s lid) have generously donnted towards the funds of tho Otaki Junior Club.
The Otaki boys have now- secured the use of the old Salvation Army barracks, which will be converted into a gymnasium.
