RETURNED SOLDIERS’ ASSOCIATION.

BRANCH FORMED IN OTAKI. A meeting of returned soldiers interested in a branch of the R.S.A. was held at the Druids’ Hall on Friday night, when sixteen were present. Mr A. R. Rudkin occupied the chair. An apology for absence was received from Captain Bax. The secretary, Mr Harold Jones, «avo a brief resume of what had transpired ’at the last meeting, and also mentioned what had transpired since ,the meeting. Ho reported that a mtter had been received from headquarters, approving of a branch being formed and forwarding rules, etc., for t Guidance of those present. He stated amt in the first instance the head body had been told that a branch could aot be formed unless there was a mombefship of one hundred, but he had written pointing out that this would bo hardship on many returned men, and in response to his letter had been informed that if sixty members were secured they would be granted affiliation to the Wellington branch. If the meeting agreed to fall in with tho proposal it remained for those present to draw up rules and submit them to be passed. In answer to Mr Atmore, the secretary, stated that with a membership of sixty the. branch would be on the same status as if it has one hundred. The Chairman suggested the necessary resolutions be passed, rules read and' revised where necessary, elect officers, ana thus start affairs going. In reply to Mr Dawson, the secretary stated that he had received 59 names of those willing to become members, while there was every chance of considerably increasing that number. It was then unanimously decided to form a branch, to be known as the Otaki branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association. . The rules of tho parent body ivcic then read, and with necessary alterations, to suit local conditions, adopted. On the motion of Mr Atmore it was

decided that ten be a quorum for gene

ral meetings, and nine for committee , meetings, including chairman, vicechairman, and secretary. The following officers were then elected: —Chairman, Captain Bax; vice-

chairman, Mr A. B. Rudkin; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. Jones; committee, Messrs G. Pepper, Walter Taylor. Atmore, P. Tahiwi, H. Fogden. and D. Wilson. The meeting then closed with a vote of thanks to" the chairman.
