MANAKAU.

. PATRIOTIC SOCIETY. A meeting of the members of the Manakau Patriotic, Society was held tin Monday night at the school. Present: Messrs Howard Andrew (chairman). Vv. Pevaii. Dalzcli. C. Nees (secretary), Brantley, ami L. 11. Atkins. Two accounts were passed for payment, while a letter was read from Private George D'Alh, who still lies in the Trenlham Hospital, thanking the committee for thoughtfulncss in remembering him while sick, and also expressing gratitude for kind wishes extended to him. .It was decided to hold a further welcome to returned soldiers, lint i( was deemed advisable to wait; till a few more had returned. The matter Of arrangement was left in the hands of .Messrs Nces and Atkins. Mr Clifford was appointed to represent the Society on the Horowhentta. Association, in place of Mr Andrew, who, owing to indifferent health, was obliged to resign.

Peace Celebrations. The Peace Committee afterwards met, when there were several present, The proceedings were marked with considerable enthusiasm, The Chairman announced that the Sunday services were well in hand, and that he had secured the Rev. Haslam, of Levin, to give tin address, while Mr Gilbert, organising secretary of (!:<• V.M.C.A.. had agreed to render :i solo. The Chairman was asked to procure a quantity of red. while and blue ribbon for the purpose of making rosettes. The sports committee al?o met to draw in. a. sports programme, while a strong ladies' committee was appointed to attend to the refreshment part of the proceedings. It was decided to spend up to £25 on the function, £l.l of which will lie spent in refreshments. It was decided to have fireworks at 7 p.m., while Mr Ciiilds kindly consented to give an afternoon picture display if the day was v.tt. children to be admitted'free.
